FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS AT LEASE MATURITY.

Can I return my lease early?

Puis-je retourner mon véhicule plus tôt?

Yes, you may return your lease early (i.e. prior to the maturity date noted in the Lease Agreement), however, you are responsible for all remaining lease payments to the maturity date and any other account charges due pursuant to the Lease Agreement. A lease-end inspection is required, and any damages or excess kilometer charges will be determined and payable at the time of return. Please ensure that any amounts due are promptly paid, as unpaid accounts are reported by us to the credit reporting agencies.

What do I have to do at the end of the leasing contract?

You can find the MINI return process with a customized timeline by entering in your lease maturity date in our lease maturity calendar. Click here to access your personalized calendar. You can also access your Lease Maturity Checklist here.

Can I keep my MINI after my Lease Agreement comes to an end?

You may keep your MINI past its maturity date by either purchasing it or extending your lease. Please click here to submit a request to purchase your current MINI. You can also request to extend the lease in your My MINI Account or by calling us.

IMPORTANT: If you do not do so, you will be charged the Over Holding Lease Payment, and in some cases, the failure to return the vehicle may lead to its repossession, adverse credit reports being made about your account, and additional costs being charged to you.

Are there any further costs when the leasing contract comes to an end?

There are no additional costs to return your leased vehicle at maturity; however, if there are any damages to the vehicle, excess kilometers, or other balances due on your account, they will be charged on your Lease Maturity Invoice. To learn more about how to determine your vehicle’s condition, please visit our Vehicle Condition Evaluator page.

What happens if my vehicle has damage at the end of the Leasing Agreement?

A lease-end inspection is required from AutoVIN Canada, an independent inspection agency. Your inspection report will call out all types of damages present on the vehicle prior to your maturity date, providing you with the ability to repair any damage that would be chargeable to you. Consult with your preferred MINI Retailer for details.

Can I receive a refund for kilometers that I didn’t use?

There is not a refund or credit available to those that return the vehicle with less than the Allowable Kilometres.

When will I receive my Security Deposit refund and how do I receive it?

Security Deposit refunds are usually issued within 3-5 business days after account closure, deposited to the bank account on file. Your Lease Maturity Invoice will outline any refunds due to you. Please note, these times vary and may take an additional 5-10 business days for your bank to process the deposit. Please note that BMW Financial Services may apply the security deposit, at any time, to any amounts outstanding under this lease if not paid by you when due.

I returned my vehicle a while ago but didn’t receive a Lease Maturity Invoice. Is there a problem?

A delay in receiving your Lease Maturity Invoice doesn't always indicate a problem. You can check on the status of your account anytime by visiting My MINI Account or by calling us.

What are OEM tires and what tires do I need to return with my leased vehicle?

OEM stands for “Original Equipment Manufacturer” and refers to MINI-approved equipment. You are required to return the vehicle with four installed, matching, MINI -approved tires (from Michelin®, Pirelli®, Bridgestone®, Continental®, Dunlop, Goodyear® and Hankook®. with at least 4/32” of tread depth. FAQ on Lease Buyouts

How do I buyout my vehicle?

Your lease buy-out must be completed at an authorized MINI Retailer. As set out in the Lease Agreement, the transaction is subject to Retailer administration fees, taxes and other charges applicable at the time of purchase including the cost of a required government inspection, obtaining any certificate of fitness (“safety” or similar), related repair costs and ministry ownership transfer fees plus all other amounts due under the Lease. Pay-off cheques must be received by the maturity (i.e. “Valid Until”) date indicated on the pay-off quote. Please click here to submit a request to your preferred MINI Retailer.

Can I buyout my lease through My MINI Account?

To ensure compliance with various laws and regulations, we cannot offer or process lease buyouts via My MINI Account or online. All lease buyouts must be completed by an authorized MINI Retailer. Please click here to submit a request to your preferred MINI Retailer.

Can I buyout my lease directly through MINI Financial Services and not through the MINI Retailer?

To ensure compliance with various laws and regulations, and to allow for a safety inspection to be completed, we cannot offer or process buyouts over the phone or accept buyout payments directly. Any buyout cheques sent to MINI Financial Services directly will be returned. All lease buyouts must be completed by an authorized MINI Retailer. Please click here to submit a request to your preferred MINI Retailer.

When do I have to decide if I will buyout my lease?

You may buyout your lease for the amount stipulated in your Lease Agreement at any time up to and including the maturity date noted in the Lease Agreement. Please note, all remaining payments will become due if the lease is bought-out prior to the maturity date.

What is my pay-off amount?

Your current pay-off amount can be accessed by logging into My MINI Account to obtain your Lease Agreement Purchase Quote, by calling your preferred MINI Retailer, or by calling us for assistance. Please note, quoted amounts expire. Please be aware that the transaction is subject to Retailer administration fees and other charges, including a government inspection, certificate of fitness (“safety” or similar), any required repair costs, and ministry ownership transfer fees. Please click here to submit a request to your preferred MINI Retailer with the option to buy out your lease.

Is the Residual Value / pay-off amount negotiable?

No, the Residual Value amount is a calculated and fixed amount set at the beginning of the lease. Therefore, the pay-off amount is non-negotiable, and payment in full of all amounts due under the Lease Agreement is required to terminate the lease.

Why do I have to pay a Retailer admin fee to buyout my lease?

To complete a lease buyout transaction, there are several steps and processes that an authorized MINI Retailer must complete. Retailers incur costs with many of these processes, and therefore may charge an administration fee. The administration fee is set by the MINI Retailer. The cost may vary by Retailer, but the maximum permitted charge is set out in the Lease Agreement.

FAQ on Lease Assumptions / Transfers

What is a Lease Assumption?

A Lease Assumption is a formal process whereby the current customer leasing a vehicle transfers all of their rights and obligations – including responsibility for the vehicle’s condition and repair - to a new lessee. Lease Assumptions are inherently risky, and not all leases may be assumed. We strongly recommend that prior to assuming a lease, you complete a detailed inspection of the vehicle and speak with your legal representative. Once completed, you are legally responsible for all obligations under the Lease Agreement. Please contact us for additional information.

What is required if I want to do a Lease Assumption?

There are a variety of steps required to complete a Lease Assumption, including a credit check. Please visit an authorized MINI Retailer to learn if a Lease Assumption is right for you.
